Dawn (Shopify Free Theme)
Dawn is Shopify's flagship free theme — clean, performant, and built with Online Store 2.0 sections. Most homepage sections in this prototype map directly to Dawn's built-in sections, requiring only CSS overrides to match Kencove's navy/orange color system. It uses .liquid templates and supports full section/block customization from the theme editor.
Sections Requiring Custom Code
Mega Menu
Dawn's nav supports basic dropdowns only. The multi-column mega menu with the Quick Links panel requires custom Liquid + JavaScript. Recommend building as a snippets/mega-menu.liquid snippet and injecting via the header section.
Quick Order Bar
Requires a custom section with JavaScript that calls the Shopify AJAX Cart API (/cart/add.js) to look up a product by SKU and add it directly to cart without navigating away.
Shop by Animal
Each animal links to a filtered collection. Implement using Shopify product tags (e.g. animal_cattle) or metafields. A custom section with section.settings blocks for each animal (name, icon, link URL) keeps it editable from the theme editor without touching code.
Brand Logo Carousel
The auto-scrolling carousel is CSS animation-based (no JS library needed). Implement as a custom section with a blocks loop so editors can add/remove brand logos from the theme editor. Duplicate the logo set in markup for the seamless loop effect.
Deals of the Month (20% off card)
MEDIUM
The big rotating discount number, coupon-code ticket, and prev/next product image are a custom section, not a stock product grid. Products pull from a deals-of-the-month collection. Note: the "20% OFF" is display copy. If it must be enforced at checkout, pair it with a Shopify automatic discount / price rule (a business decision, not a design one).
Events (home carousel + events page)
HIGH
The largest custom piece. Store events as Shopify metaobjects (one "Event" definition: title, start/end date, state, city, location, image, event + registration URLs). A custom section renders the homepage carousel; a custom page template renders the filterable timeline. The state filter, "Next Up" / days-away badges, and Add-to-Calendar (.ics download + Google link) are self-contained JavaScript. One data source feeds both places, so staff enter each event once.

Use fetch('/cart.js') on page load to populate the cart count bubble. Dawn handles this natively.
Events — Metaobjects (single source)
Define an event metaobject. The homepage carousel and the events page both read from it, so staff add or edit an event once, from the Shopify admin, with no code changes.
Odoo CRM Sync
Orders placed on Shopify sync to Odoo via the Shopify–Odoo connector app. Customer accounts, order history, and dealer status tags should be managed in Odoo and pushed to Shopify customer records via the API.

Build Complexity Assessment

Overall: Medium · achievable on Dawn

The honest read: this is very buildable, and not a risky project. Roughly two-thirds of the page maps directly to standard Shopify Dawn sections that need styling only, no custom logic. The real effort is concentrated in a handful of custom sections, and every one of them is a well-established Shopify pattern that agencies build routinely. Nothing here requires a headless build, an unusual app, or anything experimental. A competent Shopify theme developer or agency can deliver this on the Dawn theme. Plan for a medium-complexity theme build, not a from-scratch platform project. The two things worth scoping carefully up front are the events system and the Quick Order bar.

Recommendations
  • Store events as Shopify metaobjects as the single source that drives both the homepage carousel and the events page (avoids the duplicated event data in the current prototype).
  • Use a reviews app (Judge.me, Yotpo, or Okendo) for the testimonials rating bar and verified-buyer badges rather than hardcoding numbers.
  • Build every custom section as theme-editor blocks so marketing can update content without a developer.
  • Keep the Dawn base and override its color/type tokens, rather than starting from a blank theme.
Decisions to make before build
  • Who owns and maintains the events data going forward?
  • Does "20% OFF" need to be a real discount enforced at checkout, or promotional display only?
